U13 footballers qualify for County Final
Cashel 2-8 Pouldine 2-2 In a pulsating encounter, our U-13 footballers qualified for the Roinn “C” Cumann na mBunscol County Final by defeating Pouldine NS on a scoreline of 2-08 to 2-02. In truth, the scoreline flatters the Cashel boys as Pouldine hit the crossbar on several occasions and had a number of chances cleared away by a resolute, determined and brave Cashel back line. In ways, it was a classic game of two halves. In spite of an early score from Pouldine, Cashel hit back to lead 1-5 to 0-2 at the break. A sustained period of 10 minutes pressure gave Cashel the advantage going in to the break with Patrick Fahy to the fore scoring a goal and two during this time. Cashel started the second half very well. An early goal by Daniel Wade, who finished on 1-4, looked to have put the game beyond Pouldine’s reach but then the game swung dramatically. The last ten minutes were all Pouldine. Sustained pressure didn’t reap the rewards they perhaps deserved with several chances hitting the crossbar. In fairness to the Cashel boys, their defence held firm marshalled by the outstanding Brandon Duffy who cleared ball after ball. Pouldine searched in vain for the goals that would close the gap and when referee Oisín Ryan blew the final whistle, the boys celebrated with both a mixture of relief and joy. Pouldine stayed on in Leahy Park so all the subs could play in a game for fifteen minutes. It was great that everybody got a run out in beautiful October conditions. So all roads will now lead to Clonmel on November 12th where we will play Loughmore. The support yesterday from parents was excellent and we look forward to more of the same in a few weeks time. Training resumes on the Tuesday after mid-term at 3.00pm in the school field.
