St John the Baptist BNS Flower Club
by Luke Quinlan
Secretary
We at Saint John the Baptist Boys School recently formed a Flower Club. Our club started on 24 November 2011. One boy from each class has been selected to join the club.
The aim of our club is to make the outside of our school look more bright and colourful while at the same time we will learn how to plant flowers and get familiar with the different types of flowers that are suitable to grow for different seasons. We will have our flower club meetings at lunchtime. Occasionally, we may need to leave the class for some of our tasks. Monica Slattery SNA will advise and supervise us on the gardening tasks. We would like to thank Mr Ryan for giving us permission to set up the club and also for providing money to buy the bulbs and compost we needed. We would also like to thank our teachers for giving us permission to leave our classrooms when we are needed at the flower club. The first activity of the club was the preparation and setting of daffodil bulbs. We planted the bulbs in the window boxes along the front of the school. A big thank you to Willie our caretaker for fixing the boxes to the windows. We hope to see our flowers in bloom by March 2012.
