Rock Run Final Details
Dear Parents/Guardians/Runners/Walkers,
This Sunday (21 September) at 12pm, we will host our second “Rock Run/Walk”, a fundraiser for both schools. Thank you to everybody who has offered help and support so far. We look forward to a very successful event and hope you, family and friends can join us on the day. All adult runners and walkers pay €10, all students under 16 pay €5 and there will be a special €20 price for a family of four or more who would like to walk and/or run together. Ask on the day for family registration. Registration begins at 11am near the Rock Car Park and the walk will begin at 12pm sharp and the run at 12.15pm The race route will be very well stewarded, but clearly there are always dangers to running/walking on the road. We would advise that primary school children planning to run the 8km route should do so with an adult. All runners must stay on the left hand side of the road throughout the race. Particular caution should be exercised on the first three kilometres. Please note the following:
- There are toilets near the start line but there are no bag drop facilities.
- There will be kilometre signs marking the running and walking routes.
- A water station is provided just short of half way for the runners .
- A water station and refreshments are at the end for all participants.
- Prizes for the top three male and female runners in adult, secondary and primary categories.
- Please note that if you want to park in the Rock Car Park, there is a charge. Best to park elsewhere and walk to the registration point/start.
Thank you for supporting us. Enjoy the day. _____________________________ Will Ryan and Mary Andrews 8km running route http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6441135 The run begins close to the entrance of the Rock Car Park. You turn left at the Rock Shop, down past Café Hans and left again at O’ Dwyer’s Pharmacy. You continue downhill on the Kiln and turn left onto the road at the bottom of the Rock. You continue on along that road and then turn right onto the Camas Road. You will run straight on this road (uphill for a while!) for a number of kilometres until you reach the grotto where a water station awaits. You turn left at the grotto and loop around the Bóithrín Bocht for several kilometres where you will finish your race close to the entrance of Hore Abbey. There is a slight incline over the last two kilometres so manage your pace and keep plenty in the tank for the final hurdle. 5km walking route http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6441144 The walk also begins close to the entrance of the Rock Car Park. You turn left at the Rock Shop, down past Café Hans and left again at O’ Dwyer’s Pharmacy. You continue downhill on the Kiln and turn left onto the road at the bottom of the Rock. You continue on along that road and then turn right onto the Camas Road. You walk along the Camas Road for only a short period before turning left onto the Bóithrín Bocht. You will walk down this road until you reach the turning point which will be well marked. You turn and come back up the road on the left hand side. Please be aware that runners may be making their way to the finish around the same time.
