Rang 4 Chess Tournament
by James Laffey My experience with the chess tournament was fun, yet difficult. We played some games on the outside big chess board but other games were played on chess boards that were brought in by boys in my class. It seemed like each round got harder and harder as my opponents got better and more aware of the game. Mrs O' Flaherty organised the matches and she also organised refs for each game. The turn out was very large. It was nice to see Martin from Latvia participate in the events. These qualifying mathces were continued over a period of about three weeks but in the end there can be only one winner! When the final match came round, it was me (James Laffey) and Lorcan Webb. It was a really hard match but I came out on top. I beat Lorcan with a lot of cunning moves. We shook the refs hands and we both shook each others hand. I got a t-shirt that says "Chess Champ 2011". We took a photo and I got to wear the t-shirt.
