Proclamation Day
Proclamation Day 2016
The sun shone at St John the Baptist Schools for Proclamation Day, Tuesday, March 15th. It was a very special day as schools across Ireland remembered and commemorated the events of Easter Week 1916, a week that shaped and defined our history. A century on from its first reading on the steps of the GPO, the Proclamation of Independence, its visions, aspirations and sentiments, are as relevant today as they were in 1916. The three schools at St John the Baptist Complex wrote a proclamation for the next generation. After the Proclamation was read by Padraig Pearse, the Green, White and Orange tricolour was flown over the GPO. In September 2015, the Irish Defence Forces visited the school complex and presented each school with a national flag. Representatives from the three schools raised the flag to commemorate the men and women of 1916 as a symbol of our nationhood.
