Primary Schools Cross Country Championships Report and Results

Wednesday 2nd October was the official start of County Tipperary's Cross Country season which was launched in style in the magnificent grounds of Thurles Crokes A.C. A record number of 90 schools took part in 30 different races with a total of 2,572 children participating. Patsy & Kathleen Dorney & their huge team of helpers at Thurles Crokes A.C. provided a wonderful course & facilities & lots of assistance.  Emby Walsh, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. & all her team organised these Championships and did a sterling job. Thanks also to Tipperary County Board & to all the Clubs who provided help, to the teachers who did such a great job in preparing their pupils for the competition & to the children themselves who represented their schools with pride & were a credit to them on the day. (from www.tipperaryathletics.com) Our school brought 47 pupils to the championships competing in the 3rd/4th and 5th/6th major schools races.  Cathal Quinn put in a tremendous performance to finish 5th in the 3rd/4th class race, while pride of place went to TJ Barron in the 5th/6th class race as he ran very strongly to finish in a commendable 13th place. All our pupils, however, performed admirably and more importantly seemed to very much enjoy the experience.  This is our fourth year attending the championship and they get bigger every year. Well done to the boys for their training efforts throughout the year.  Also thank you to Paddy Moloney for helping out on the day and to all the parents who came out to support our young men.
