Letter for Sixth Class Parents
FOR THE ATTENTION OF SIXTH CLASS PARENTS
RE: REMOTE MEETING (ZOOM), 6TH CLASS PARENT SURVEY & GOOGLE CLASSROOM
8 May 2020
Dear Parents and Sixth Class Pupils,
We hope this finds you & your families well. What a completely unexpected & disconcerting turn of events. It’s hard to get your head around it all, but we know that with your guidance and support the boys will be ok. We’ve always maintained that if you don’t feel safe and happy, then learning is very difficult - if not impossible - so focussing on your family’s wellbeing before the academic side of things is paramount.
Mr Molloy and I along with colleagues have established a “6th class End of Year/Graduation” committee and we’re working behind the scenes to try and make the very best out of this difficult situation.
Remote Meeting next Tuesday
We want to speak with the boys though and with this in mind, we’d ask that you go to our website and view the following link on remote meeting guidelines:
Remote Meeting Guidelines for Parents & Pupils
The invitation to our “Zoom meeting” next Tuesday 12 May at 5pm will be sent via text earlier that day.
Parental survey
We’d also like to hear from your own views as the boys’ parents so we’d ask that you complete the quick survey linked below. We may also send this link via text for your convenience if necessary.
Google Classroom
We have created an online classroom on Google Classroom for our 6th Class boys. This is to offer you and your son further support over the coming weeks. The plan is that weekly work packs for 6th Class will continue to be uploaded on the school website https://www.cashelbns.ie/ and all photos, completed activities, enquiries, etc. can still be forwarded directly to Mr Molloy’s email address patmolloy@cashelbns.ie
Google Classroom is a free online virtual classroom. Think of it as a Social Media forum for 6th Class! It provides a safe way of communicating with you and your son and enables you to view daily announcements and assignments as well as additional supports such as PowerPoints, voiceovers and links to helpful websites and videos. You can also post questions or comments to us publicly (on the page) or privately. It is easy to sign up. You need to create a Google account and Gmail address in order to sign up (Many of you may have an account already).
You can sign up in 4 easy steps.
- Go to classroom.google.com
- Sign in with your Gmail address or create a Google account and Gmail address (This only takes a couple of minutes)
- Click on the + sign in the top right corner and select ‘Join Class’
- Key in your unique code dkrgohu and select ‘join’. (Note: The class or assignment won’t be accessible until Monday)
There are very useful videos on Youtube that demonstrate the basics of using Google classroom. I found this one, on joining a class for the first time, to be very helpful (from a student’s point of view).

Once you have signed up, we would encourage your son to sign in daily for any announcements, reminders or tasks. Speaking of which, we have already created your first task! We want you to write a profile about yourself and your time in our school. Describe yourself, your background, your hobbies, etc. Describe your earliest memories in school, your friends and favourite subjects. You can do so in roughly 150 words.
You can write this and email it to Mr Molloy but we would encourage you to try it on Google Classroom as you can ‘turn in’ your assignment directly to us online, if you choose to type it. If doing so, you can click into the assignment on the main page, type up your answer on Google Docs and ‘turn in’ your work directly to us. Nobody else can see it, however, this will be your profile for your Graduation Booklet.
Remember, this is an extra support. We encourage you to do your best to sign up. However, if you are unable to do so, please don’t feel under any stress to do so. You can continue to email Mr Molloy, as before, with any photos, assignments or questions, perhaps even regarding Google Classroom.
Le meas,
Mr Ryan & Mr Molloy
