Inaugural Student Council Meeting Minutes

Minutes taken by Alex Marshall and typed up by Sean Ryan Date      4th April 2011 Present: Mr Will Ryan, Alex Marshall, Ross Bonnar, Sean Ryan, Jack Ryan (Con) Ricky Lambe, John Ryan, Tomás Burke. Absent:  Ciarán Quinn  Mr Ryan opened the meeting by welcoming everyone.  He congratulated everyone on being elected to the student council for this year.   He then requested students suggestions.  The following ideas were put forward by the various classes: Suggestions? Third Class: (1)  When  some class students are gone playing a match, the remaining students to be allowed some fun time in their absense, PE time or students who train are allowed to go see the match. (2)  All classes should be allowed participate in the Blitz. Fourth Class;  (1)  All classes to be allowed play on the grass.  (2)Tag american football or cricket organished at lunch time,  (3) Soccer poles to be put up. (4) Drop kick challenge to be included in the sports day activities. Fifth Class;   (1) To organise students who are using skipping ropes at lunch time to play behind the basket hoop.  (2)  Consider allowing 5th and 6th classes to play together at lunch. (3) Hygiene in toilets to be brought to all students attention. (4) Cones to put on the area of grass being damaged by students to prevent further damage. Sixth class;  (1) To have an non-uniform day for Trocaire. Other Issues; Mr. Ryan gave the student council members  the National Childrens Strategy Consultation forms to give to class teachers to give to the students to fill up. Mr Ryan also told the members present about the Active Schools flag whereby schools get an activity flag for doing as many activities as possible in school, including arranging an Active Schools Week.  He told the boys that they are now also members of the Active Flag Committee.  Mr Ryan  finished the meeting by telling  the council members about the Green Flag for energy which involves turning off lights and computers when not needed and letting the sun in. The meeting came to  a close.
