Cumann na mBunscol Hurling Final Reports

10th Jun 2013

Written and compiled by Seanie Barron Cumann na mBunscol County Hurling Finals U11 B1 & B On Friday 7th June, glorious sunshine welcomed our twenty-five Under 11 hurlers and their mentors to Semple Stadium.  We were competing in the Cumann na mBunscol County Hurling Finals at B1 and B level.  Weeks of nerves and excitement had passed and now the time to stand up and be counted had arrived. Under 11 B1 Final – Cashel BNS v. Gaelscoil Durlas In the first minute of this final, Cashel got off to a dream start as Cory Hynes pulled first time to the net in the opening minute.  Ben White  followed this up with a pointed free and the same player pointed to increase our lead.  Some good work by Herman and the backs restricted Durlas to long-range shots which caused us no harm.  We raced into a 1-3 to 0-0 lead when Andrew Burke got a good point.  Durlas scored a goal of their own but this was cancelled out when Sean O’Neill goaled from half way.  Ben goaled with a rocket shot and a minute later hit the net again from a Herman O’Donoghue clearance.  We were in control at half time and lad 4-3 to 1-0. The second half began as we had finished the first with a quick Sean O’Neill point.  Cathal Quinn got a point and then Ben White completed his hat trick with a well-struck goal and then another from a 21 yard free.  Donal Ryan pulled the ball first time to the net to have the final say in the scoring - CASHEL BNS  7-5    GAELSCOIL DURLAS  1-0 This was a great victory for the boys with each and every one playing their part in a good team effort.  Sean O’Neill and Cian Moloney accepted the trophy on behalf of their tem and school. Panel:  Herman O’Donoghue, Christopher Corbally Maher, Sean O’Neill (JC), Ben White, Cian Moloney (JC), Andrew Burke, Alex Dunne, Cory Hynes, Sami Saifullah, Colin Fogarty, Ross Minogue, Cathal Quinn, Donal Ryan.  Principal – Will Ryan.  Manager – Jennie O’Farrell.  Coaches – Paddy Moloney & Joe McGrath. Under 11 B Final - Cashel BNS v Gaelscoil Durlas Now it was the turn of the other team. They had a tough act to follow.  Jake Cotter pointed early to settle the nerves.  A good ball from defence found Evan Moloney and he obliged with a well taken goal.  Durlas now pointed and then goaled to tie the scores after four minutes.  Durlas then went ahead with a point but a Jack McGrath pointed free levelled matters again In the tenth minute.  Daniel Moloney edged us ahead again with a point, but Durlas rallied with a goal.  This was real ‘goal a minute’ stuff now as Even Moloney got his second goal in the twelfth minute.  Out of nowhere, a bullet strike from Daniel and a well taken Jack McGrath goal had us ahead by four points at half time on a score of Cashel 4-3, Durlas 3-2.   The second half began with a wonderful goal by Cashel full back, John Ryan, who drove the ball the length of the field.  Durlas wouldn’t lie down and came back with a goal.  Jack McGrath finished to the net with a neat strike in the half’s third minute but once again Durlas goaled to stay in the game.  Aaron Moloney got in on the act with a nice point.  T. J. Barron then pulled first time to the Durlas net to increase our lead.  Jack scored a point and then he scored a free to strengthen our lead.  Daniel Moloney pointed after twelve minutes of the half.  The last score came from Jack McGrath who completed his hat trick with a good goal.  Final score - CASHEL BNS 8-7, GAELSCOIL DURLAS 5-2. Overall, every boy can be proud of his day’s work.  The goalie and backs were in command, midfielders worked hard and the forwards got the required scores. A great double for the school at Under 11 age group - seen seldom before, if ever.  Jake Cotter accepted the trophy on behalf of his team and school. Panel:  Ross Whelan, Thomás Burke, John Ryan, Conor O’Dwyer, Ethan Gayson-Molloy, T. J. Barron, Aaron Moloney, Jack McGrath, Evan Moloney, Eoghan Murphy, Daniel Moloney, Jake Cotter.  Principal – Will Ryan.  Manager – Jennie O’Farrell.  Coaches – Paddy Moloney & Joe McGrath. A special thanks to the parents and supporters who turned out on such a warm day.  A great day’s work!
