Cross Country Athletics 2012

Cross Country Athletics 2012

By Jak Hays and Dylan Byrnes In the second week of September we started athletics training for Third, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth class. We were training for athletics running in Thurles.  Third and Fourth class would have to run 800 metres and Fifth and Sixth would have to run 1 kilometre.  There were well over 50 boys participating in our school, but some dropped out.  The training was very hard but it was worth it.  We had to run three times a week.  Then, after weeks of training, it was finally the day.  We left at 10am on 52 seater bus and arrived in Thurles at approximately 10.30am.  There were over 1,000 people there.  Third and Fourth raced for Cashel at 11.15am.  Their race was the second race.  After the race, T.J. came 8th and Jack McGrath came 13th, so they both finished in the top twenty and made Cashel proud.  Fifth and Sixth class boys ran in the 12th race.  We were all nervous just before the start.  When the man blew his whistle, over 180 people started to run. Just near the finish line, we were all very tired but we kept going.  The top four for Cashel were Jak Hays [19th], Dylan Byrnes [30th], Kevin Gayson [31st] and Gabriel [37th] After the race, we went back on the bus; but before we went home, Mr Ryan kindly treated us to an ice-cream.  We got home at 1.10pm and we sat down and rested. On behalf of all the runners, we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came to support us or helped out on the day.  THANK YOU. [nggallery id=21]
