Connolly Stars In Epic Encounter
By Michael O’ Meara and Séan Ryan in Holycross On Thursday the 13 of October, Cashel had a tough match against Holycross. It was a very sunny day. It was intense from the first minute. From the throw-in, Rodrigo Goncalves fisted down but a Holycross man won it and send it down the field to a Holycross forward who put it over the bar. It looked like Holycross were certainly up for the match. Cashel scored very little in the first half unlike Holycross who were dominating play. The score at half time was 0-2 to 1-6 in favour of the home team. Cashel came out fighting in the second half and started with a point from Murragh McDermott. Suddenly, Ross Bonnar won the ball and gave it to Eoghan Conolly who stuck it in the back of the net and Cashel were on a comeback. Eoghan Conolly grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and went on to score a further 2-2 in the second half. Overall, it was a great game with both teams competing ferociously for every ball. Adam Skeffington made some great saves in the Cashel goal while team captain Michael Morrissey was excellent in defence with Eoghan Connolly leading the Cashel attack despite nursing a niggly injury. Final score in a very competitive and sporting game was Cashel 3-6 Holycross 1-7.
