All-Ireland Champions Visit Our School

St John the Baptist BNS, the girls school and the Deanery were delighted to welcome two members of Tipperary's All-Ireland winning minor gaelic football team. Local boys Dylan Fitzell and Gearóid Slattery, both former pupils, along with team selector Tadhg Duggan, were the toast of the schools as they paraded the Tom Markham Cup into the school halla. Tadhg spoke to the boys and girls about the importance of behaving well in school, doing their homework and then going out to train in their chosen sport.  He said that it took huge commitment to be part of an All-Ireland winning team and he praised the boys and their parents for their dedication to the cause. Dylan and Gearóid then fielded excellent questions from various different boys and girls in the three schools. Dylan then suggested that the pupils be given homework off because they had been so welcoming!  Mr Ryan agreed but only if the everybody sang "Slievenamon" to the best of their ability.  They duly obliged. The boys then went around to the junior classes who were amazed at how big and shiny the cup was. We thank Gearóid, Dylan and Tadhg for coming to our school with the cup.  It was a great celebration and we are very proud of them both. Please enjoy the pictures of the day below.
