Active School Week
Monday
We kicked off our Active Week with a Wake Up! Shake Up! in assembly. It was only right that we started it as a whole school together. We even saw Mr Ryan pulling off some moves. Every boy from infants to 6threally enjoyed it. Hurling coaching was next on the cards. This week was a special treat as we were joined by Transition Year students from the Community school. Every class was broken up into smaller groups where they learned and practiced new skills. At lunch time second got to play two soccer games on the grass for the first time this year. The rest of the boys were skipping, playing ball games and some of the senior boys had extra hurling training. It was great to see all the staff and boys in tracksuits and t-shirts. Thank you sun for shining down on us!
Tuesday
We were blessed with another beautiful day! GoNoodle helped us with our Wake Up! Shake Up! this morning. The boys enjoyed two dances with the infamous Maximo. Mr Coskeran kindly took the day out of class to organise circuits for us with help from his wonderful 3rdclass. Every class had a taster of ten different stations which had sports like hockey, badminton and basketball. It was a real treat in the beautiful sun. Even the teachers got involved! Mr Taaffe put his new tracksuit to use after school at soccer training too.
Wednesday
Today was a busy day. We started the morning with dance in assembly. All the staff got involved. Next we had our very busy active lunch breaks where boxing and soccer were the highlights. Then it was time for our first school Skipathon. The sun shone down on us and every boy and every staff member got involved. Even Fr Enda skipped for a while. After school we had a 4k Challenge for our 3rd-6thclass boys and some of the teachers joined in on the run as well as parents. There was also a huge crowd at the finish line to cheer everyone over the line.
Thursday
Starting the morning with dance has been really enjoyable this week. It is a great way to get everyone awake! All the classes have been busy finding their two finalists for the penalty shoot-out on Friday. 2nd- 6thare busy coming up with active slogans and the junior end of the school are busy staying inside the lines for our active colouring competition. All prize winners will be announced tomorrow. We have been blessed with beautiful sunshine all week which has been an added treat to our active lunch breaks. Today was the junior infants first day up on the grass. They had two great games of soccer. After lunch the whole school gathered around our “Field of Dreams” for our much anticipated dodgeball game. First up were Mr Molloy’s dangerous devils who dared to beat our teacher/parent team. Unfortunately the 6thclass boys were standing last and took the victory. Next up were Ms Crosse’s boys who fancied their chances. However, our teachers and parents had other ideas. We were determined to stop the students. Luckily the win went our way. It was a great afternoon for all. The students say there is still some unfinished business which perhaps might need to be scheduled for our annual Sport’s Day in June.
Friday
Our last day of Active School Week was not going to disappoint. Every class has incorporated lots of cross-curricular activities into their work this week. We encouraged all the boys to get out and be active in the sun after school. It was time for our penalties on Mr Molloy. The finalist had trained all week. The whole school gathered on the pitch to watch. It was a great occasion. Well done to all the boys who so bravely participated. After lunch we had our Céilí Mór. All the school danced together under the sun. It was a great achievement. We then gathered on the astro turf to announce our competition winners. Well done to every boy who spent time colouring and creating slogans. It was very hard to pick just one winner from each class. Our prize winners received a signed sliotar from our Tipperary hurlers. What an amazing prize. Our overall slogan winner was Mikey Gayson from 6thclass. His slogan will now be used by every class and it will be displayed throughout our school. Our week ended just like it began with some freestyle dance in the senior yard. What a wonderful week had by all!
