1798 Brought Alive!
By Jack Browne Corbett On the 21st of October 3rd, 5th and 6th class went down to the hall for a re-enactment on the 1798 Irish rebellion. We met a man called Mike, we all learned a lot while having fun. Some of us were called up and put on costumes of clothes they would have worn and Mike gave us the weapons they would have used during wars or battles. We learned about Wolfe Tone who was a Protestant lawyer who set up The Society of United Irish Men for Catholics who wanted the right to vote or run for parliament and to be treated fairly. We also learned about the English and their captains and soldiers. Mike told us about the Wexford rebellion, and he told us how we got rights to vote and run for parliament in the end. Mike was very kind and let everyone hold some weapons and wear some costumes at the end.
